Load games
Choose Get PGN Files beneath the notation to open the game sources. Browse the Grandmaster Collection or Opening Explorer, open a PGN file from your device, or import a Lichess player's public games.
Lichess imports support up to 1,000 games per request, with player, color, game type, result, and date filters. A progress message appears during downloads; Cancel stops the download. If Lichess asks you to wait, try again later.
Find and replay a game
Select a game in the left-hand library. Search narrows the list; the X clears your search. Sort by moves or date, and press the same sort button again to reverse the order.
The full library is saved in this browser for your next visit. Clear games list removes the saved list after confirmation, without deleting your original PGN files.
The controls beneath the board go to the beginning, step back, toggle autoplay, step forward, or go to the end. Click any move in the right-hand notation to jump to that position. The current move is highlighted.
Board and position
Copy copies the current position as FEN text, not an image. You can also click the FEN field. Analyze opens engine analysis inside ChessIQ; Flip reverses the board. A red glow marks the king when it is in check.
On wider screens, drag the separators to resize the outer panels. Drag toward the edge to hide a panel and inward to reopen it. Drag the board's corner handle to adjust its size.
Set up a position
Choose Set Up beneath the board. Drag a piece to a square, or tap a piece and then its destination. The piece tray supplies additional pieces. Drag to Remove Piece to delete one, or select Erase and tap squares. Undo restores the previous edit.
Choose the side to move and castling rights. Advanced contains the en passant target and move counters. Load FEN imports a position; Copy FEN exports it. Use Position checks basic validity and displays the custom board. Analyze opens that position with your chosen engine. Return to Game restores your original game and move; Cancel discards edits.
Engine Analysis
Analyze runs Stockfish 19 on your device, without leaving ChessIQ. Choose a time limit or Infinite, which keeps searching until you press Stop or close analysis. Compare up to three suggested lines, with depth and positions per second shown as the engine works. Positive evaluations favor White; negative evaluations favor Black.
Each analysis line has a green arrow showing its first move. The strongest arrow is Stockfish's top choice; lower-ranked moves are more transparent. The arrows update as the engine thinks.
Choose Maia 3 for human move prediction at a modeled rating. Each percentage is an estimated human move likelihood at that rating, not Maia's confidence that the move is best; the outcomes below it predict White wins, draws, and Black wins after that move. These are not Stockfish evaluations. Maia ranks its arrows by move likelihood and makes one prediction per position, so Infinite analysis time applies only to Stockfish.
Choose Stockfish + Maia to see both for the same position. Stockfish defaults to Infinite and keeps searching while Maia's completed prediction stays visible. Modeled rating controls Maia; Board arrows chooses which engine's suggestions appear on the board. Stop pauses both engines, and Analyze restarts them. Either engine's suggested moves can be clicked to explore a continuation.
Drag pieces or select a piece and its destination to try legal moves. Click a suggested move to try that continuation. The arrows browse your game or analysis line; Reset restores the position you opened. Save PGN downloads your current analysis line. Back to Board leaves the original game unchanged. An active computer game's clock pauses during analysis and resumes when you return.
Settings
Choose board and piece styles, custom square colors, and light, dark, or system appearance. Board coordinates adds a white border with files a-h and ranks 1-8, following the board's orientation. Adjust autoplay timing, piece-movement speed, and sounds. Show or hide the last-move and next-move text, and choose the last-move highlight color.
Library settings control sorting, hide draws shorter than 20 moves, and optionally show games from the winner's side. Preferences are remembered in this browser.

Computer Games
Choose Stockfish 19 or Maia 3, your side, time control, and starting position. Stockfish offers skill levels 0-20. Maia 3 5M models human play at the selected rating, with varied replies; the rating is not a guaranteed playing strength. Both run on your device. Maia's first use downloads about 36 MB, with loading progress. Seconds per move sets Stockfish's thinking time or Maia's move delay.
Drag a piece or select its square and a legal destination. Clocks start when the engine is ready and continue while the tab is in the background. Save PGN downloads the game; Back to PGN Board restores your previous game, move, and board orientation.
